History & Heritage

Click through to discover our history. Teignmouth’s history is far from boring (well we hope you find it interesting). Teignmouth’s known as being the place that was the last successful foreign invasion in England, which left the town utterly destroyed, the only surviving structure was St James’ Sandstone tower, which dates back to the 12th century. If you want a more comprehensive and detailed history, we recommend visiting the Teign Heritage Centre.

Teignmouth has been home to many prominent figures, one that becomes significant especially in our modern day is Charles Babbage, who is regarded as the “Father of the computer”.
