Everything A Dog-Owner Needs To Know

Teignmouth is a famous dog-friendly town in South Devon. Pups love our sandy shores and you will see many dogs roaming around town with their owners. Almost every local cafe welcomes muddy paws. It is the perfect place for a seaside dog holiday.

🐾 Quick Beach & Town Rules:

To ensure a safe day out for everyone on the sand, please keep these extra seasonal guidelines in mind before heading down:
  • Back Beach: Is open all year for doggies.
  • Shaldon Ferry: They allow for dogs on trips to and from Shaldon.
  • Stunning Walks: Teignmouth has many fantastic places to walk your dog from the seafront & back beach, Mules Park
  • Dog Waste Fines: Leaving dog waste on any part of the beach or promenade carries a £75 fixed penalty notice. Clear dog bins are positioned at all main access points.
  • Summer Restrictions: The front beach has seasonal restrictions for dogs on the beach, but does not stop you enjoying walking your dog in the many other places across town.

Local Tips

  • The Point Car Park Advantage: Head straight to The Point Car Park to park directly between the Front and Back beaches. It gives you immediate access to both shores without walking across town.
  • Tide Windows for the Back Beach: Always time your visits to the river side based on the Teignmouth Harbour Tide Tables. Low tide exposes massive sandbanks that are perfect for letting your dog run free and explore safely.
    • Shaldon Ferry Pooch Policy: The small foot ferry over to Shaldon is completely dog-friendly! You can hop on right from the Back Beach for a quick trip across the river with your pup.
